Weekly Photo Challenge: Fall

They looked like coins
Gold and silver
Seductive in their glint
Drawing me away
From life and love
Just one more
One more this time
So close now
I can almost touch them
Almost
Before the fall

Fantastic image and poem. When I saw the photo used for the challenge this week I thought it was a fantastic take on fall.

Very nice. I was thinking of challenging myself to a poem a day for a year beginning in January. I just took a short poetry class, and found some fun exercises. Do you use any particular exercises for inspiration?

I don’t tend to do any exercises, but I haven’t been very good about doing a poem every single day either. I think I’m up to 200, but that is a bit behind as far as getting 365 for the year. I like Photo Challenges and sometimes I’ll just go onto Google and look at pictures for inspiration. I try to think about pictures from a different perspective, so a happy-looking picture that is actually sad, or vice versa. You can also try writing from a narrative perspective or a character perspective. Throwing in a little twist is fun, which if done right changes the mood of the work. This blog was envisioned as an excuse for exercises in themselves. I think the most important aspect of writing is to be kind to yourself and realize that it’s okay to not like everything you write. Don’t take your own writing too personally and enjoy the process!

Excellent photo. At first I thought your interpretation had to do with a “fall” vertically. And then I noticed the leaves on the ground and this picture got even better. Brilliant work here.
